A Musical in Somerville
Tonight I brought my favorite Emperor to see http://www.neveraftermusical.com/ and it was very good. If you have time on Sunday, get to see it. Raw and sassy, I could go down a list of 'shoulda' but that's me being hyper-critical. The point is live theatre, musical where the Princess slays her own dragons was high energy and laughter.

I saw a few people I knew and missed saying hello to most of them.

Pride and Prejudice
Thanks to she_of_emeralds I have read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

It was a good read with a couple of very funny lines. I think I don't understand how the language was used back then so much of the humor might be my blind spot. All in all a good read.

I'm used to reading SF&F where the common trope is "We got started on the wrong foot and we have to somehow get to appreciate each other (and fall in love is optional)." I mean its classic sub-plot #1. Mercedes Lackey, Melissa Scott used it. Even the stage play Wicked has it.

So it was a surprise to see that subplot #1 was the plot for P&P. It was the only plot for P&P and if I don't miss my guess its the inspiration for so many of the books that I've read. I like it but I was surprised that the protagonists were not defeating the Evil Overlord as well. As such I'm not surprised that the guy added in Zombie scenes.

However I think I need to read more of JA's books. Anyone have a copy to lend?

Treasure!
Today is the first full day of early access to Champions Online.

So I went to visit a young friend, she_of_emeralds and paw through her pile of books in need of a new home. Tea and Conversation ensued.

Thank you!

Now to turn on the CO and be sucked away from the regular world for a while.

In a fit of domestic insanity
I'm thinking about cooking. I have the materials for ice tea including a pitcher that I've dug up and washed the dust off and the mix. I could just use the tap water but for this first batch I'm going to use the water put through the Brita filter. The pitcher takes 1&1/2 brita pitchers. And I can't get my ice maker to function.

I have a pouch of gingerbread mix that I made sure I had the 'just toss in' extras, like water and margarine and egg. Found my pearl sugar! I washed off the cookie sheets, yes both of them. Now I'm wondering if I should bother since I do not have any tin or container to put them in. If I don't have a good place to put them I'll end up eating too many 'to keep them from getting stale' and not give them away.

Mix cooking can be good. Scratch cooking is not always superior. Some family recipes just aren't as good as what can be bought as a mix.

Ok, so there is a lot of misconceptions on the current outbreak of H1N1 a/k/a Swine Flu.

I think this is a link open to the public.

Quote of the Day
I like this quote "Does that mean the non-speakers would demand of those of us who speak that we cease doing so? Of course not. That would be ridiculous. All they want is for us not to be entitled jerks about it."

it comes from http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2009/04/soaking-in-normalcy-fetishism-or.html

That is an insight of Us/Them diversity, I don't want to endure or to be an entitled jerk. I just want to be myself which is very similar to some people and very different then other people at the same time. Now to live my want.

Movie: Adventureland
I saw the movie Adventureland Saturday with my family and other local coaster enthusiasts. The story take place in Pittsburgh, PA in 1987. They filmed it at the lovely, historic Kennywood amusement park. It was a dirty look at the squalid lives of the people working the summer at Adventureland a made up amusement park. With the amount of alcohol and pot the people on screen I'm surprised they didn't die of liver failure or asphyxiation. None of the characters were nice and there was a lot of pain and shame going around. If you want to see people being nasty to other people then get your tickets quick, I don't expect it to stay in the theaters for long.

On the way home
Omega 16 was fun. As I drove home I encountered a car driving on the wrong side of the street. She was very determined to drive straight at me. I swerved and hit the breaks. Didn't use my horn. As she drove by, I saw the smile of the very lost or the very drunk. Just glad that I was not involved in proving that she was terminally stupid.

I think I'm calm enough now to sleep.
